Vision/Experience

Gateway Yachts Founder Nathan Martin grew up in the Puget Sound area and has experience boating over a large area of the Pacific Northwest.

The fractional ownership vision first came to Nathan while in college, simultaneously finishing business and aviation degrees, and teaching aviation for Louisiana Tech University. As if that and Air Force ROTC weren’t enough, while working for the University he also began working for several local corporations, flying and managing their aircraft. Although he worked for up to five aircraft owners simultaneously, he never experienced a scheduling conflict as none of the owners utilized their expensive aircraft more than 150 hours per year.

Seeing how inefficient that was on a collective basis, the young Nate Martin asked each owner if they would consider selling 3 of the 5 aircraft, keeping just two within a program managed by him. All five owners responded “absolutely!” Thus was born his vision of efficiently sharing expensive but otherwise underutilized transportation assets.

Already committed to pilot for the U.S. Air Force, Nate went on to finish first in his pilot training class, quickly became a C-141 instructor pilot, and then youngest C-141 Chief of Stan-Eval in history. He flew all over the world as pilot-in-command performing strategic airlift, humanitarian, air refueling, medevac, combat, and training missions. He has created and run training programs, and has formal safety and accident investigation/ prevention training.

Upon exiting active duty, he continued developing his fractional ownership vision focusing his master’s degree on the concept. Graduating with Masters Degrees in Aviation Operations and Management, Fractional Ownership was also the thesis for his Master’s Research Paper. He used his experience to found Alliance Airgroup, Inc., an aircraft management company. Captain Martin went on to pilot Boeing 737′s for Alaska Airlines and has since retired from flying. He has written a book on macroeconomics (Flight to Financial Freedom), and has also published economic articles world-wide.
